Alaka Halder’s poems revolve around the complex interplay between you and I, the two entities she creates to express her poetic being. One may identify with her I, but her you remains shrouded in a cloud of mystery and indeterminacy. A sense of ambivalence and awe that arises from the relentless pursuit of I for fathomless you pervades her poems. While earthly matters, such as, a death in the family, concern about the environment, a long-extinct flower make occasional appearance, Alaka’s poems weave a world of her own that is distant, mysterious and unlike the one she lives in.
